Thinking the Political: Alain Badiou and the Task of Politics

Contemporary French Philosopher Alain Badiou offers a radical new view of the task of philosophy and politics. As a life long activist himself, Badiou argues that the rehabilitation of Communist hypothesis is the only idea capable of forcing a different set of social relations. This has numerous consequence for truth, history, and the subjectivation capable of realizing an egalitarian society. In this lecture we will explore Badiou's notion of the Communist hypothesis, its historical points, and his theory of subjectivity.
